The weekend in the Willis Room (Sexy New Urban Design HQ)

Saturday and Sunday did happen for Sexy New Urban Design Team… Erskineville, but the net was down, so online records are a little behind. Every change will be up as usual soon, including a nasty little bridge troll shaped surprise under the recently installed lover’s bridge and a giant swathe of wetland taking the place of a certain local establishment. Some questions will be answered, such as which local establishment, but others will be left unsolved… is the billy goat the troll’s bane, or will lovers have to wait for his brother to show up before venturing back to their romantic spot?

Friday!

Another day of building Tiny Erskineville! Slow day because of the rain and preparations for the Symposium of Art, which runs from 12-4pm tomorrow. More information available at the Quarterbred site.

Changes!
Our first ever change back on Wednesday (not documented here) was from a young man who didn’t leave his name (christened ‘Graffiti Dude’) who asked us to replicate some graffiti on the old Cake Shop. That old Cake Shop has since been transformed into Tasty Flavour, a Japanese sushi and tempura restaurant. (25.02.10)
A Contemporary Art Workshop and space for visual and material artists has been put at the bottom of a new sculpture garden. (25.02.10)

Apartments have been places (with a small garden) on top of the Council Chambers (25.02.10)

FlyOne, a young man who retracted his real name after worries that he would be linked to his ‘FlyOne’ tag, recreated the Erskineville Hotel as a Casino (sign is yet to be coloured). (26.02.10)

New community art in one of Erskineville Road’s grassy areas (26.02.10)
That’s all so far for today – come along tomorrow if you can to discuss the future of art at the Symposium. There will be scones!

Thought this would have happened a lot earlier. But hooray!

I Guess Erskineville is Too Hot?

Some of the changes we’ve installed in Erskineville today, they have a bit in common. I guess it’s too hot in Erskineville.

A waterslide to the train station? Yes please!

And how about a pool and spa on top of the cake shop?

We’re currently putting in a sculpture garden and workshop space, as well as a flying fox for a certain resident to get home from the pub more safely.

First Day of Sexy New Urban Design Team

Yesterday marked the first day of our residence at Tiny Stadiums.

Our first major change to Erskineville was the growth of three Money Trees outside the Pizza Piatsa cafe, billed for private used.

After that we installed a playground area behind the florist.

We’ve a bunch more projects we’re working on today, but why not pop into the Erko Town Hall and add something yourself?
Another post coming this afternoon with more additions. Let us know what you reckon in the comments.

This is just a space for us to post upcoming events, thoughts and musings. For the time being, however, it will be our news outlet for our Tiny Stadiums piece, Sexy New Urban Design Team…Erskineville, which we are currently presenting in the Erskineville Town Hall everyday until Sunday 7th March.
We’ve set up a big model of the main street of Erskineville, and with audience interaction we plan to redevelop it using people’s ideas into New Sexy Erskineville. Come in and have a look at the model, propose some changes you’d like to see in the suburb and then if you want, help us build it at the craft table!

For more information on Tiny Stadiums, which also features the work of our friends Tiger Two Times, visit http://www.quarterbred.blogspot.com
We’re here 11am-5pm each day, so pop in.

Tiny Stadiums, curated by Quarterbred, is present by PACT.

Stay tuned for updates from the Sexy New Urban Design Team Urban Design Studio!
