appleloft!, the fringe, TiNA and others.

August 23, 2010 2 comments

So, Appleloft! was last Friday night. It was pretty sweet.

We had some lovely tunes from Rob and Mark, poetry from Doug (who also created an indie film script/send-up with Rob and Kirby which was seriously funny) and other performances from Nathan, Joe, Duffy, and myself – plus the Summit (‘Who or What do you think should be PM that isn’t currently running for parliament?’) and the Holes stories.

Thankyou so much to everyone who performed and everyone who attended. We look forward to seeing you all at the Fringe version of Appleloft.

Speaking of, the Sydney Fringe Festival starts in about two weeks! Which means our show is in about three weeks! Tickets are on sale here and you can book subscriptions to see four or five different shows throughout the festival for a discount. We’d love to see you there 🙂

TiNA and the Crack Theatre Festival is the October long weekend in Newcastle, NSW – where we are presenting Applespiel’s Morning Breakfast Commercial Radio Show at 10-11am each morning. I am personally looking forward to this very, very much as I have never been to TiNA before and I can’t wait to see all the other works over the long weekend.

Other shows: next week at Carriageworks, the National Youth Theatre Company is presenting a series of new works as the first ever showcase of the NYTC. I’m performing with the Senior Ensemble and have been working with the Junior Ensemble as Assistant Director. You can buy tickets to the Senior Ensemble show ‘Growing Up’ here and if you enter the discount code RACHEL you’ll get cheaper tickets and the joy that comes from knowing you’ve used my name as a discount code. Tickets for the Junior Ensemble show ‘MUD’ and the Regional show ‘OUTBACK” are available through the NYTC website.

It’s going to be a busy few months, with shows and teaching pracs and thesis editing and camping ahead for the Applespielers. We hope that we’ll see you at the Fringe and TiNA/Crack Theatre Festival.

Rachel.

Just a little post to share our excitement at being the ‘theatre’ PICK of the Sydney Fringe Festival! Check out the story on the Fringe in the Sydney Morning Herald here. Also take a look at the picks for dance, music, etc. and the dance group that is pictured, as they are also from Wollongong!

GOLLYGOSH IT’S APPLELOFT!!!

August 19, 2010 1 comment

That’s me! In the middle! I’m excited!

Appleloft! is tomorrow night, at my place in Wollongong. We’ve got Applespielers, Current UOW students and post-grads coming to perform some things, and there will be cupcakes and lemonade and wasabi peas and all things nice.

Turn up around 7 – the performances will kick off at 7.30pm. If you don’t know the address and don’t know an Applespieler to ask, send me a facebook message (I’m an admin on the Appleloft! event page) or leave a comment on the event page and I’ll send you one.

Come through the back door (there will be balloons) and bring snacks/drinks (if you so wish). Wooooooo!

RACHEL

Appleloft! @ My Place. A Warm-up before the Fringe show.

August 9, 2010 Leave a comment

The Sydney Fringe Festival (www.thesydneyfringe.com.au) kicks off in about a month (September 10, to be exact) and in preparation for our show, ‘Appleloft’, we’re putting on another of our collective performance nights – ‘Appleloft!’

It is seeming more and more that we should have maybe used a different title for the Fringe show, since we’ve used ‘Appleloft’ in the past as the name for our performance evenings in Wollongong. However, it is one of our favourites and we shall recycle it, like someone who gives all their children the same name.

‘Appleloft!’ will be held on Friday the 20th of August, at a location in Wollongong, at about 7.00pm. We’re hoping to get as many works shown as possible – all of Applespiel will be performing solo or small group works, and we’ve got some UOW grads and current students on board as well. There will be lemonade and cookies, and some fairy lights. It’s free entry and it’s always a lot of fun.

Also, pick up the newest Real Time when you see it – it’s the education issue, featuring the old and new UOW performance courses in an article between Keith Gallasch and Sarah Miller, and name-dropping some Applespielers – Mark Rogers and Nathan Harrison, who are both undertaking a year of post-graduate study in Honours. We’re going to put a copy up on our respective fridges, like proud parents.

Find the ‘Appleloft!’ event page on Facebook.com and click ‘attending’, and then attend on Friday the 20th. That is my recommendation to you. Go forth and prosper.

Memes 101

August 4, 2010 Leave a comment

Creating an internet meme is easy, simply make a Youtube video and tag it with some memes you already know about. What’s an internet meme you ask? Well it’s like a viral video, image or concept that pops up everywhere, sort of like Applespiel’s last video. This time we present the second installment, featuring the wonderful and sometimes elusive Duffy.

Enjoy.

Applespiel have got a lesson in viral marketing for you.

August 2, 2010 1 comment

Look. We’ve seen a few episodes of the Gruen Transfer in our time, so I think we’re pretty cluey when it comes to viral media and marketing a product. In this case, the product is us (first up is Mark). I don’t think any more needs to be said. Except for this feedback:

godblessreg: “obnoxious, yet compelling”

troy: “it’s not uploading properly”

mark: “buuuhhhh”
